O'BRIEN PRESS TO PUBLISH THE BIG BREAK DETECTIVES!

The O'Brien Press, Ireland's largest publishers of children's books, is to publish The Big Break Detectives as a 64 page graphic novel paperback in 2011. Aimed at 7-11 year olds, the book will feature four full colour Big Break Detective stories narrated by quirky and be-hatted Little Tom in casebook style, and will be available from all good booksellers from 26th September 2011.

MURDER CAN BE FATAL SERIES...

O'Brien Press will also this year begin publishing my series of "WHODUNNITS" for 10-14 year olds. Entitled "MURDER CAN BE FATAL", the first book will feature the famous Swiss Detective Marcel Petit-Pois and his chimp sidekick Tesla as they track down the murderous Chocolatier in "Death By Chocolate". Each graphic novel will be 80 pages with old school black and white artwork.
UPDATE -- DEATH BY CHOCOLATE is out NOW! The second book in the series, SIX MILLION WAYS TO DIE is released 26th September 2011.

FINTAN'S FIFTEEN

And as if that wasn't enough, O'Brien Press will publish in 2012 my 80 page graphic novel telling the story of the trials and tribulations of Ireland's worst hurling team, the Ballybreen Terriers U14s, and their unlikely captain Fintan Heffernan.

Below is a poster and cover that I did for Doomlord David McDonald's 2000AD fanzine "Tales from the Emerald Isle", featuring Irish characters that have appeared in the hallowed pages of the Galaxy's Greatest Comic (TM) in all-new fan-produced stories. Funny how alcohol features heavily in each image. All characters © Rebellion and respective creators. You can read a breakdown of how it came about on Pete Wells' superb "2000AD Covers Uncovered" site here...

The strip on the right was part of a chain comic (a scriptless comic where you write and draw a page having only seen the page preceeding) for Fyshbowl Comics -- click the link for Kyle's Comics Challenge to see more...

The cover below was for a comic scripted by my good friend Danielle Lavigne for Belong2, to promote teenage HIV awareness.

TALES FROM THE HOOD

Last year I contributed a 4 page strip to Cliodhna Lyons' anthology book in aid of GOAL entitled Sorry I Can't Take Your Call Right Now But I'm Off Saving The World. You can read the whole strip HERE.

24th April 2009  I was at a pub quiz last night, didn't win but ended up drawing this while I was pondering which European countries the Alps run through. (Italy, France, Switzerland and Austria, fact fans.)

21st April 2009  This (right) is a cover I drew for a comic based direct mail piece.

I did a 3 page strip for the inner of the piece but as that strip is even more of a silver-age pastiche than the cover I'm gonna keep that to myself!
